12/01/2014 City of Winfield Fire/EMS POSITION TITLE:FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC Under supervision, responds to various emergencies to protect life and property; trains in the use of and operates firefighting and rescue equipment.  Performs first aid or Paramedic duties as certified. Participates in fire prevention programs, fire code inspections, pre-fire planning, public education programs, hazardous materials response, station and vehicle maintenance, and associated training activities.  Work varies requiring individual judgment within prescribed standards and procedures.  Must meet residency requirement of 15 miles from the fire department within 6 months of start date.Responds to fire, rescue, medical, and other emergency calls.  Assists in the suppression of fires including rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, and salvage/overhaul work. Performs first aid or Paramedic duties as certified. Ensures that the Incident Management System is implemented on emergency responses.  May serve as Incident Commander. As training progresses, on occasion may drive and operate fire department equipment as required. Assists in the suppression of fires and in the protection of life and property. Ensures readiness for further alarms.

Norton County is a Type IIA service with approximately 500 calls a year.Seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to work in the rural setting and comfortable taking care of patients for long transport times.Norton is located in NW Kansas at the intersection of Hwy 283 and Hwy 36.Full time schedule is 48 on, 48 off, 96 on, / 48 off, 48 on, 96 off rotation. These shifts are 12 hours at the station, 12 hours on call from home within each 24 hours period.Full-time employees typically average 16-20 hours of overtime per pay period, paid at time and a half. Plus paid per call after hours of at least time and half.The applicant must have good communication skills and work well with a variety of health care professionals with varying degrees of experience.
