Riley County EMS is accepting applications for Full Time Paramedics. We offer a starting wage of $13.07/hour for EMT’s and $15.68 for Paramedics. Our Full Time Paramedics earn an initial salary of $52,183.04/year with opportunities for annual performance based raises. Employees are eligible for KP&F retirement benefits, Health Insurance, Holiday Pay at 2.5 times their base rate, and Event Bonus Pay consisting of an additional $8/hr for staffing most events including Big 12 Athletics. We work a traditional Berkeley shift with no residency requirements. We employ a Full Time Director, Asst. Director, and Training/Quality Officer. We operate four ALS staffed units and a support vehicle out of three stations, two of which are shared with Manhattan Fire Department. We respond to approximately 4800 calls for service annually, provide routine training/education on duty, and offer a wide variety of community outreach opportunities through our active PR Committee. Job Description:
Maintains readiness for effective emergency medical response; returns to readiness quickly after emergency calls are completed; maintains accountability for equipment and supplies; completes administrative tasks by established deadlines; participates in organizational development; assures that equipment and station is maintained and clean; unit logs are completed.

Provides service and medical care in the context of the medical emergency that follows established protocols; applies proficiency in clinical skills; maintains knowledge of established protocols; provides compassionate service to meet human needs; maintains awareness of need for and interface with special operations units; maintains scene safety; transports patient to appropriate destination.

Collects, communicates and completely documents information about the medical emergency to further quality patient care; delivers complete and timely report to hospital staff; provides complete billing information; assures patient privacy.

Responds to medical emergencies; drives safely; assures quick response and turnout times within department guidelines; follows appropriate routing.

Participates in and conducts training exercises for EMS providers, first responders, and the public; participates in training to improve knowledge and skills; participates in inter-agency training and reviews; interacts regularly with first responders; interacts with public to share safety and prevention messages; assists with public education events; maintains appropriate level of physical fitness for response readiness.

Paramedics assigned to the Tactical Team have the following additional Essential Duty: Provide lifesaving skills during tactical engagement which may include the ability to run, jump, climb, crawl, drag patient, and lunge during tactical engagement.

Job Requirements: Certification as a Kansas Paramedic or registered as an EMT-Paramedic or Paramedic by the National Registry by May 1, 2018 is required. Graduation from an accredited paramedic program, an associate’s or higher degree, and experience providing advanced life support level pre-hospital emergency medical services is preferred.

Possess a valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record is required.

American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications or equivalent are also required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.

Applicant must submit to and pass a pre-employment post-offer drug screen, and pass a physical ability assessment prior to employment.

These positions work a 48/96 rotation. Enjoy the opportunity to work 48 hours followed by 96 hours off – then the shift repeats.
